Phillipa Edwards

Phillipa Edwards is one of Australia’s pre eminent ensemble conductors, adjudicators and clinicians currently holding the position of Musical Director of the internationally acclaimed, Footscray-Yarraville City Band.

She studied trumpet at the Victorian College of the Arts and has enjoyed the teaching of brass luminaries Gordon Webb, Mark Summerbell and Rob Smithies.

Phillipa has studied conducting with Professor David King and Steve Bastable (U.K) as well Dr Barry Bignell and Brett Kelly. Her experience in this field is both extensive and varied and she has worked all over Australia with Concert Bands, Stage Bands, Symphony Orchestras, Brass Bands, Choirs and small ensembles.

She has been a conductor for the Melbourne Youth Music Summer camp and has also worked with Dr Jonathon Welch OAM and his ‘Choir of Hard Knocks’ Foundation. She has also collaborated with Manilla St Productions in the creation of ‘Where Do I begin? The Voice of Shirley Bassey’ with Matthew Lee Robinson and Alistair Smith and was a co- creator of the recent ‘Silent ANZAC’ production featuring the Footscray-Yarraville City Band.

Phillipa was named the 2007 ‘Musical Director of the Year’ by the Victorian Band’s League. She holds a Diploma of Arts (Music) V.C.A, Bachelor of Music (Performance) Melb. Uni, Dip of Education (UNE).
